North London Eating Disorders Support Group
I
co-ordinate a self help and support group for men and women aged 18+ who are affected with eating disorders of any kind.
You do not have to be in treatment to come.
This
group is part of the b-eat (formerly EDA) Self Help Network (SHN).
The
group is run by three group facilitators, Fenella Lemonsky, Laura Farleigh and Karen Hamilton. We are all registered
with Beat.
Fenella
is a recovered bulimic/compulsive-overeater and a mental health service user
rep in Barnet, with Barnet Enfield and Haringey Mental Health Trust and an Expert by Experience working with the Eating Disorder
Steering Group/Research Group at the London
Development Centre for Mental Health and The North London Hub of the Mental Health Research Network at Imperial College, London..
Laura is a fully qualified and registered art and integrative psychotherapist with many years of experience working with eating
disorders and self harm in groups and individually both in the NHS and private sector. Karen is a registered psychiatric
nurse/senior practitioner in the NHS and a psychodynamic psychotherapy trainee.
The
group has been running since April 2003. We are all registered with b-eat. We have been vetted and follow strict guidelines
re groups and their code of conduct, ethics and responsibilities. However the main rule we follow is CONFIDENTIALITY. What
you share with us stays with us. We ask you to respect this as you may bump into another group member in the local high street!
We
receive regular training and supervision for our work. We receive supervision from a psychologist who works with the internationally
accredited specialist eating disorder team at the South London and Maudsley NHS Trust.
The
groups runs from 10.30 to 11.45 on the FIRST SUNDAY OF THE MONTH
At
Avenue House,, East End Road Finchley N3. We start
with tea/coffee from 10.15 and there is a book collection you can browse through as well as other pieces of literature available
to take away.
There
is no admission charge however we do appreciate donations, entirely at your discretion. Suggested amounts are £6 or more for
those in employment or £3 for those not currently working. This would cover the refreshment costs as a minimum. A receipt
is available for those who want one. Donations cover the costs of conferences and training that we need as well as funding
extra resources for the group.
We
ask kindly that:
during
group you switch your mobile phone off to avoid disturbance but if you need to keep it on then do just say
alcohol
is not brought in to the group to follow suit with other support groups in Barnet and the rules of the Building
you
arrive on time as we cannot allow late admission however do tell us if you think you are going to be late.
Enquiries
about the group please email northlondongroup@aol.com
